The whole Silicon Valley is oxymoronic — geeky and rich and hip. - Microserfs by Douglas Coupland
So, I read Microserfs again. The first time I read it must have been 1998 or so. I loved it. I mean, I wanted to live inside it. That was a long time ago. I had forgotten most of the details. I didn’t, for example, remember that most of the action actually takes place in Silicon Valley. Or that it’s essentially about a startup. I almost read it again about five years ago, but somehow I wanted to wait. I thought, maybe it’s not great like I remembered it, or…something.
Funny, when I read it the first time the places would have meant nothing to me and surely some of the things they mentioned I wouldn’t have known about, such as the ENIAC. It is funny too how relevant it is to today. And most of all - here is the book I wanted to live inside? Well, guys. Here we are. Here. we. are.
